Must-Do Outdoor Activities:

  • Camping on the beach at False Cape State Park-- False Cape State Park, located in southern Virginia Beach, is a mile-wide barrier spit between Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean and offers primitive beachfront camping. In the fall, False Cape can only be reached by hiking, biking, small boats, or their tram-service, through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, so don't plan on being able to park here. From the untouched, all-natural campsites and trails to the pristine, oceanfront beaches, False Cape State Park is a must-try for all avid campers.
  • Stand-up Paddle boarding -- With the wealth of waterways that run through Virginia Beach and feed into the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, there may be no better way to explore the beauty of our area than by floating right through it. For the perfect combination of excitement and relaxation, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is one of our favorite ways to experience our maritime beauty. Whether you own your own equipment or are renting from one of our many great local outfitters, there’s no shortage of options here.
  • Cycling & Biking-- Virginia Beach has over 200 miles of bikeways and trails, not counting trails in our 230+ parks and natural areas, including fat tire biking on our beautiful beaches . Plus, there are 23 miles of unpaved paths in 2 state parks and a federal wildlife refuge. With new paths, lanes, and routes to existing roads, new roads, and other corridors being added regularly, it is no surprise that we are frequently voted as one of America’s Healthiest Cities.
